Ewan Henderson is reportedly a transfer target for Hibs.Â
Shaun Maloney worked with the midfielder during his season with the Celtic Reserve and Youth squads and is bound to be aware that his contract expires at the end of this season.Â
Henderson was given his debut by Brendan Rodgers in May 2018 with the Irishman keen to introduce the teenager whenever possible.Â
Playing time reduced drastically under Neil Lennon with last season virtually a lost cause before being sent on loan to Dunfermline at the end of March. His only Celtic appearances were in the Europa League dead rubber against Lille and the two matches post-Dubai when 15 players had to self-isolate. Â
Henderson has only made one appearance this season, again off the bench in a Europa League tie when he scored in the 3-2 win over Real Betis but at the age of 21 he is badly in need of regular first team football.Â

But Henderson may join him with his Celtic future unclear following a raft of new arrivals at Parkhead. And the Daily Express reports that Shaun Maloney wants to make the midfielder his first signing.Â
The Henderson name is still revered in Leith after big brother Liam delivered the corner that allowed David Gray to head home his dramatic 2016 Scottish Cup final winner.Â
Henderson’s Celtic deal is up in the summer, however, it’s likely the Hibees would need to pay if they want him in January, although that could come in the form of a sell-on and additional payments based on performance.Â
Transfer business between Celtic and Hibs has been tetchy in recent seasons but with Peter Lawwell and Rod Petrie removed Maloney may be able to strike a deal to get his former player.Â
Maloney coached at Celtic from August 2017 to September 2018 when he joined Robeto Martinez with the Belgian national squad.
