Premiership clubs are preparing to play in front of ‘crowds’ of 500 when the fixture card resumes next week.

Celtic face Hibs on Monday in the first match of 2022 with hope fading that the capacity of the 60,000 capacity will be tested.

In the week before Christmas the Scottish Government announced that outdoor events would be restricted to crowds of 500 while shopping centres, gyms and other activities continued almost unaffected.

The SFA and SPFL have hardly said a word to back up clubs that have lost out on walk-up fans and hospitality takings with an update expected this afternoon from the Scottish Government.

On December 26 five Premiership matches were played in front of 500 fans with Hearts deciding that it wasn’t worth the trouble to make arrangements and hold a ballot to select fans from their Season Ticket holders.

Celtic are due to play Hibs on January 17 followed by Dundee United on January 29 with both of those fixtures impacted by the latest decision from the Scottish Government.

In England there has been no restrictions on attending football matches.
