Celtic have clinched the signing of Riley McGree according to the Daily Record.

A 15 month loan stint with Birmingham City recently came to an end with Celtic agreeing a transfer package with Charlotte FC- a club that McGree has yet to play for.

Ange Postecoglou has known the midfielder for a number of years, calling him up to join the Australian national squad as an 18-year-old although he wasn’t capped by the Celtic boss.

News first emerged on Sunday morning about Celtic’s interest, at lunchtime on Monday the Daily Record reported:

Celtic have clinched the signing of Australian international Riley McGree. The 23-year-old has agreed to become the fifth January signing for Ange Postecoglou.

And the Parkhead club are set to announce McGree as a Hoops player, subject to international clearance.  The Hoops agreed a fee in the region of £3million with the playmaker’s club Charlotte FC.

With Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi already signed up this month Postecoglou has bought himself a whole new midfield as he prepares for the restart of the season in one week’s time.

After starting virtually every match of the season David Turnbull suffered a hamstring injury during the first half of the League Cup Final on December 19 and is likely to be out of action for at least another month.

Following his spell at Birmingham McGree will already be upto speed with the demands of the UK game with his relationship with Postecoglou just needing refreshed.

Keep them coming now jota and vickers and clear out the dead wood even if we take a big hit what we get most of the duds down to liewll the agents friend ?????.

Good to see new faces being brought in during this window especially in the midfield area because it was just a matter of time before David Turnbull was burnt out if he had not picked up that injury and there’s no rush to get him back with the quality of players that Ange has brought in and Turnbull could really do with a break after playing for Celtic and also scotland. We just need jota to sign now and hopefully Vickers.
