The grim reality of Sevco’s transfer situation has been revealed with Watford bidding just £2m for Borna Barisic.

An offer of £5m would have secured the deal but the EPL side only offered an additional £1.5m in add-ons. They refused to pay £5m for the 29-year-old Ibrox star.

At the same time associated cheerleaders and messengers are trying to claims that £10-12m has been paid up-front for Nathan Patterson with upto £16.5m eventually heading to Ibrox.

Barasic has been the regular left-back for three and a half seasons but appears to be attracting little interest with a desired transfer fee less than 50% of the up front Patterson price tag.

The Sun reports:

However, Watford’s initial offer of £2million fell well short of Rangers’ £5m asking price for the Croatia international.

And although the Hornets went back to the table with £1.5m of add-ons last week, the Scottish champions remained unimpressed with the figures on offer.

Ranieri and Watford reluctantly pulled the plug on negotiations yesterday after Rangers agreed a £16m deal with Everton for Nathan Patterson – with the move now complete.

That financial booster has eased the Glasgow giants’ cash flow problems after C**id left them needing to find £7m by the end of the season.

Watford had hoped to use that to their advantage but Everton’s move has allowed the Light Blues to call the shots and SunSport can confirm the deal for the left-back is now dead.

Previous moonbeams have linked Roma with a £15m swoop for the Croatian journeyman.

“Glasgow giants cash flow problems” I must have missed the in depth analysis from our media on that one.
Now that it seems to be alleviated, all be it temporarily, the issue can be discussed openly.
What the hacks aren’t mentioning is that this sale is not getting a high earner off the books so the bottom line is still the same: this club is losing over £10M a season and owes it’s directors money.
They still owe tranches of transfer payments, Ashley will have to be paid at some point, and Hector is back wanting his money.

The people at Everton are extremely stupid for parting with anything other than a few hundred thousand for Patterson. They will surely find out what a mistake this was. I am astonished that a club like that can be taken in by this transfer. They must surely be in a worse state that Sevco.
On the other hand, Watford are showing a lot more sense and have not been duped so easily.

I actually think different, I think Patterson looks a right good young player, his goal for Scotland was terrific. He is a star in the making as far as I’m concerned, and being a Scotland fan also, that’s is good for national team as well. Pan, are you serious with figures of a couple of hundred grand for Patterson, surely not. Boy looks a player.

I think he looks a good player as well however that is based on very limited sightings of the player.
I could say the same fur a host of players in the SPL.
Yhe Scotland call up is also a strange one; how many times have we heard the saying “He can’t be picked for Scotland because he isn’t a regular for his club” Well that saying can’t be used any more.

I would be very surprised if the finance people at Everton paid £10m for Patterson, and even more so if it was paid up front. Apart from the fact that most, if not all, transfer fees are paid over 3 to 4 installments, so 4 x £2.5m in the above scenario, Everton will be aware of Rangers financial situation, and should, like Watford did, offered a lower overall fee with higher initial sum paid up front, e.g. £8m for Patterson with initial payment of £5m, then 3 x £1m. You can add on extras which may or may not be realised, £1m after 10 goals, another £1m for 100 appearances etc to make it look huge! Good player from what we’ve seen but the valuation looks off to me, considering his lack of game time and experience. The Scottish media won’t question it though!

  • Donald Macintyre says:

No sensible club has paid £11 million upfront for a guy who can’t replace Tavernier, Patterson is a good young prospect but that’s it at moment.
We should though remember they had John Joe Kenny and to my opinion easily the worst player I have seen in a Celtic shirt, no control and only backwards passing.
So maybe the inflated figures are correct, aye right
