Celtic fans urged their club to back up Ange Postecoglou after they tweeted comments from the Australian at yesterday’s media conference.
Club media tends to steer clear of contentious issues but it seems that a corner has been turned following Postecoglou’s reaction to the match against Alloa.
Admitting that you told players to refrain from physical contact is one thing, calling on match officials to apply the Laws of the Game to protect employees is another highly unusual move.
Celtic’s tweet this morning was accompanied by an image of Postecoglou looking on as Yosuke Guchi was helped off the pitch with the midfielder facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Callum McGregor and Liel Abada were also replaced during the costly win over Alloa, after the match Giorgos Giakoumakis claimed that Celtic’s opponents had crossed a line.
Hoops supporters backed the comments by the manager, it remains to be seen whether the club takes the issues up with the SFA.
Don Robertson was in charge at Alloa, tonight he’ll referee the visit of Livingston to Ibrox, John Beaton will referee the Hearts v Celtic match.
?? “You want referees to provide that protection for both sets of players, both from deliberate actions but sometimes just by reckless action.”?
Ange Postecoglou is looking for protection for his players?

finally a bit of backbone to come out and say this before a game where we’re expecting to get crunched time and time again if the last game is anything to go by.

The standard of refereeing in Scotland is well below par to other leagues in Europe. Not one Scottish ref at the euros says it all. UEFA know they are not qualified enough to do a good job.

About time the club was making this most basic of requests. Ange was great on this yesterday. A level playing field is too much to hope for but protecting players from career ending injury can’t be too much to ask.

This is a start.

We really need to continue to publicly question the standard of refereeing in Scottish football. It’s becoming a weekly debate that refeees are costing teams points or players are suffering injuries from tackles that are not punished on the field.

About time. We don’t want favours. Just to be fairly officiated.

Most, if not all employers have duties of care to their employees. Why do Celtic seem to think they are exempt from that duty of care?

Great stuff, fully expect this from my manager..now down to the club to present their findings to the clowns running football in Scotland

Clancy gets removed of duties for midweek game after The Rangers (sick) dossier, yet Don Robertson gets to referee The Rangers vs Livingston game. Just another example!
Editor: Clancy didn’t get removed. Six matches, only six refs, Clancy will be in charge at Dundee v St Mirren on Saturday. Another zombie fantasy destroyed.
