Matt O’Riley appears to be Celtic bound with the Daily Record reporting that the 21-year-old is a medical away from joining on a £1.5m fee from MK Dons.

The midfielder has scored seven times in 30 appearances for the League One outfit this season and appears on course to become Celtic’s fifth summer signing, the third midfielder signed this month.

Last week Ange Postecoglou spoke about missing out on Middlesbrough-bound Riley McGree which prompted many media outlets to conclude that Celtic’s incoming business had been completed.

Midfielders seem to be crucial to the way Postecoglou sets his side out with O’Riley on his way a week after the McGree deal stalled.

Scott Burns of the Daily Record reports:

Celtic have agreed a £1.5million deal for Matt O’Riley and the MK Dons star is heading north for a medical.

The Hoops have been in talks with the League One outfit for the last couple of days and have now agreed a fee for the 21-year-old.

Blackburn and Swansea City were also keen on O’Riley but Celtic look to be in the driving seat with a medical set for later today.

O’Riley has spoken at length to Ange Postecoglou over the past 24 hours and it now looks like a long-term deal is set to be sealed.

If all goes to plan with the final talks and medical then a deal could be confirmed before their Scottish Cup clash with Alloa Athletic on Saturday.

There is a lot of detail in that report which suggests that an announcement is soon to be made.

Reo Hatate made a huge impact on Monday night in his debut against Hibs with Yosuke Ideguchi also catching the eye when coming off the bench.

Ewan Henderson and Liam Shaw have moved out on loan, with Ismaila Soro failing to make the 20 man squad against Hibs it looks like the Ivorian will be further down the pecking order if O’Riley becomes a Celt this week.

Strikers Daizen Maeda and Johnny Kenny have also joined Celtic this month.
