He may have been welcomed with a corny reference to an eighties hit from Duran Duran but Celtic fans were delighted to see Reo Hatate complete the formalities of his move from Japan.

Back in the eighties a new signing would be introduced at a media conference, speak separately to the broadcasters, daily and Sunday papers then get along London Road for an introduction at Barrowfield.

These days things are done a little differently. On December 31 Celtic’s social media channels announced that Hatate had joined Celtic alongside Daizen Maeda and Yosuke Ideguchi.

Over the course of nine days supporters have been drip fed introductions to the new signings. Firstly Maeda, then ‘Guchi’ last night Ange Postecoglou had his say with Hatate introduced on Saturday morning.

The direct delivery of news is one thing, come 7.45 on January 17 Celtic fans will be looking for Kyogo-like signs from the new signings, back in August Furuhashi announced himself with a hat-trick against Dundee as Celtic fans fell in love with all things J-League.

The trio of new signings have the relative luxury of a fortnight to settle in, training sessions with team-mates and full preparation. Anticipation is sky high for the J-League bhoys.
