Leigh Griffiths looks certain to get the chance to stay with Dundee until the end of the season.

Over the last 48 hours news has leaked out of Celtic that they are ready to pay up the remaining months of his contract rather than have him returned.

James McPake put his trust in Griffiths at the end of the summer transfer window with the offer of a season long loan at Dundee.

Two goals in 14 SPFL Premiership appearances hasn’t done much to boost Dundee’s hopes of avoiding relegation but the soon to be ditched Celtic striker retains the confidence of his former Hibs and Livi team-mate.

McPake told the Daily Record:

Leigh has trained over the past few days and has been working hard, he’s in the squad. When players like Leigh Griffiths pop up, you’re always interested, our focus as a club is on (the game) at Livingston.

The situation is what it is, I can’t speak on behalf of Celtic, hopefully he goes and has a positive impact in our team. He’s showing a desire to kick-start his career of late with that free-kick away to Aberdeen and scored in a bounce game last week against Forfar.

That goal against Aberdeen is something Leigh has done all his career, he’s a player that loves scoring goals and enjoying his football. When you get Griffiths scoring goals then you’re getting a good player and we need to add more goals into him in the second half of the season.

Dundee return to action tomorrow night just two points above bottom of the table St Johnstone with 18 matches left t play.

Interest in Sam Cosgrove and Christian Doidge hasn’t brought any new faces into the club, putting more onus on Griffiths to repay his former team-mate.
