SFA send in John Beaton to keep Sevco sweet

There shouldn’t be any dossiers getting leaked to Sky Sports tonight with John Beaton in charge at Ibrox for the Scottish Cup tie against Stirling Albion.

The Lanarkshire based referee is regarded as the safest pair of hands in the game with his crime sheet stretching back to allowing a Bilel Mohsni ‘goal’ to stand against Albion Rovers in 2014 when the Ibrox defender used his hands to put the ball over the line while fouling the Rovers keeper. Ally McCoist’s warriors got through in the replay with Beaton’s career taking off at a pace.

After a 25 month run without a domestic red card the Tribute Act suffered the shock of Ryan Kent being sent off at Aberdeen on Tuesday night.

That was enough for the dark edges of social media to put together their conspiracy with the club giving it the stamp of approval today.

Constructive talks have been held with the SFA about referee Kevin Clancy. Sky Sports leaked the story without any sort of balance or criticism with the SFA obligingly falling silent.

Tomorrow Clancy will referee the cup tie between Kelty Hearts and St Johnstone, Don Robertson will be in charge of the Alloa v Celtic match. Beaton will referee Wednesday’s Hearts v Celtic clash which will be shown live on Sky Sports.
