Terminated- Celtic call time on stormy eight year career

Celtic have finally cut their ties with Leigh Griffiths- eight years after signing the striker from Wolves. 

The former Scotland striker was given an unexpected 12 month contract at the start of July but according to the Daily Record that deal included a termination clause which Celtic have taken up. 

Griffiths is currently on loan at Dundee but most media reports have concentrated on the fact that the Dark Blues wanted to cut short that deal with Celtic reluctant to take the striker back. 

Now it seems like Griffiths will remain at Dundee until the end of January, beyond that he will be a free agent to sign anywhere that he is offered terms. 

Last night the Daily Record revealed: 

Leigh Griffiths could be without a club at the end of January after Celtic decided to terminate his contract. 

The Hoops striker will remain at Dundee on loan until the end of the transfer window but will then be allowed to leave Parkhead. 

Mailsport understands the club have triggered a clause in the one-year deal he signed last summer, which allows Celtic to cut him loose. 

Griffiths will stay at Dens Park for now and is included in the Dark Blues’ squad for Tuesday night’s Premiership clash against Livingston. But the 31-year-old’s future is up in the air after Celtic informed him of their decision last week. 

The decision will have little or no impact on Ange Postecoglou’s plans for this transfer window with Griffiths long out of contention for a place at Celtic. 

In August the striker was listed as a substitute for a number of Celtic matches but failed to get on the park, that frees him up to move elsewhere with players only allowed to turn out for two clubs per season.
