Celtic fans have got good reason to be hopeful that a permanent deal for Jota is getting closer.

An injury to the winger resulting in a return to his home city and parent club coupled with a change of management at Benfica could have changed the environment.

Although the loan deal was reported as containing a right-to-buy option any transfer ultimately hinges with the player. If the player isn’t convinced business won’t be done.

During his first few months at Celtic Ange Postecoglou made it clear that he wouldn’t be trying to change the mind of players wanting to move elsewhere. If they wanted to be at Celtic great if not they were better elsewhere was the opinion of the manager. Despite playing at Ibrox on August 29 by the time September came around Ryan Christie and Odsonne Edouard were elsewhere.

Today respected Portuguese publisher A Bola revealed:

Celtic and Benfica are advancing in negotiations with a view to the definitive change of Jota to the Scottish team.

Upon loan from the Portuguese, Celtic guaranteed a purchase option of 7.5 million euros and the excellent season that Jota has been doing accelerated the process.

In 18 games this season, Jota has scored 8 goals and 6 assists, but the promising youngster’s future should remain far from Luz.

Unless Jota was wanting a permanent move to go through there wouldn’t be any point in the two clubs talking.

After bringing in three J-League signings on December 31 a permanent contract for Jota would be exactly what 99% of Celtic fans want for deal number four.
