Two great messages from Matt O’Riley

Matt O’Riley put in a very mature performance in front of the Celtic TV cameras and on social media after completing his £1.5m transfer from MK Dons.

The midfielder only turned 21 two months ago but seems very assured and certain about the direction his career is going in.

After coming through the ranks at Fulham, picking up caps for England at u-16 and u-18 level, he found his career stalling when MK Dons came on the scene 12 months ago.

Taking a step down a division was a calculated risk but after leaving homely Craven Cottage he can now look around Celtic Park and anticipate how it feels to play in front of 60,000 fans.

With Johnny Kenny one for the future, three out of Celtic’s four January signings play in midfield which suggests where in the side Ange Postecoglou wants to have quality options.

Rather than discuss a move between agents and CEO’s Postecoglou took an old fashioned approach to enticing O’Riley to Celtic, getting on the phone at an early stage to set out exactly where he saw the midfielder featuring in his plans.

Tomorrow at Alloa the new bhoy is likely to make his debut, the man with the plan will be hoping that his January 2022 move works out as well as the move from Fulham to MK Dons a year ago.
