Nathan Patterson was in his usual position as Everton scraped past Hull City 3-2 after extra-time to progress in the FA Cup.

Rather than watching James Tavernier playing in his preferred role the Murray Park starlet watched Jonjo Kenny for 74 minutes before the Celtic flop was replaced by Abdoule Dacoure.

Rafa Benitez used his five permitted substitutes but there was no game time for Patterson who joined in midweek for an undisclosed fee believed to be in excess of the £1.8m that Sevco picked up for Josh Windass in 2018.

Tonight’s win is unlikely to ease the pressure on Benitez whose side had won just once in the 12 matches leading up to today’s win over a Championship side that included Greg Docherty.

On Tuesday Everton host Leicester City in the EPL which doesn’t seem like the type of fixture to throw in a rookie defender who has only started less than 10 SPFL matches.
