Celtic are reported to have sent Craig Strachan to watch Antoine Semenyo for Bristol City in their 2-1 win over Reading in midweek.

Craig is the lesser known son of Gordon and has had a senior scouting role at Celtic since his Dad was in the manager’s seat more than a decade ago

Semenyo opened the scoring on Wednesday night with his fifth goal in the Championship from 11 starting and six substitute appearances.

Matt O’Riley’s signing in January confirms that Celtic are seriously scouting in the English lower divisions with Bristol World reporting:

The former SGS College sharp-shooter gains admirers by the week, and BristolWorld understands that Scottish giants Celtic are the latest to check on the powerful striker.

According to sources north of the border, senior scout Craig Strachan was watching Wednesday night’s game against Reading. Craig is the son of former Celtic manager Gordan Strachan and he covers England and European games for the Bhoys.

And Strachan junior will not have been disappointed with what he saw in the 2-1 win over the Royals, as Semenyo tapped in from a few yards out after good work by Andi Weimann and Cameron Pring had led to the chance for City to open the scoring.

With Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda and Giorgos Giakoumakis all signed by Ange Postecolou Celtic seem well covered for strikers.

Semenyo is under contract with Bristol City until May 2023 which means that the time between now and the end of the season is the best opportunity for the club to get him signed up onto a new deal.

After a massive turnover of players last summer Postecoglou will be anticipating less hectic activities this summer as he further stamps his influence on the depleted squad that he inherited from Neil Lennon and Peter Lawwell.
