Celtic have been speaking to one of their favoured media outlets about the huge reduction in tickets for next month’s Scottish Cup tie against Dundee United.

Normally Celtic get two sides of the stadium when they visit Tannadice but for the March 14 visit away fans will only get the Jerry Kerr Stand as United keep the West Stand (Shed) for their own supporters to give Tam Courts’ side backing behind both goals.

Rule 29 of the Scottish Cup states:

For any Match, excluding the Semi-Final Matches and the Final Match, to which admission is wholly or partly by ticket and/or by cash admission at the turnstiles, the Away Club shall have the right to claim admission for its supporters of up to 20% of the spectator capacity of the Registered Ground at which the Match is to be played.

With a stadium capacity of 14,233 Celtic are entitled to 2846 tickets which can all be accommodated in the two areas of the Jerry Kerr Stand.

Celtic employ a Supporters Liaison Officer, are on multiple social media platforms and also have their own website and TV channel to communicate with fans. Iain Jamieson is Celtic’s Communications Manager.

Dundee United issued a website statement to explain the ticket allocation and pricing, Celtic opted to communicate with The Sun:

A Celtic spokesperson said: “The prices set were a matter of agreement between both clubs. Clearly from our perspective we are hugely disappointed to be informed that our allocation for this match relative to our previous visits to Tannadice, which we regularly sell out, has been reduced by around 2000.”

The match will be shown live on Premier Sports but the ticket allocation is another blow to Celtic’s away support.

At the start of the season no Celtic fans were inside Tynecastle or Ibrox for the opening SPFL matches, no away fans were allowed to attend the UEFA qualifiers or the Europa League ties away to Real Betis or Ferencvaros.
