Charlie Nicholas has revealed Celtic’s secret recruitment tool- Frank Trimboli.

When Ange Postecoglou joined Celtic there was an explanation and almost a clamour for him to bring in his own coaches, partly to wash away the perceptions of last season, for some fans there could be no survivors.

The Australian didn’t play along, he trusted the coaches already at the club, none of his assistants from Australia or Japan were brought in but he already had a pair of eyes pouring all over the transfer market.

Trimboli is the joint Head of Football at the CAA Base Agency, an Australian that has 20 years experience of the football industry from his London base. Just last week Trimboli took Dele Alli from Spurs to Everton.

Celtic aren’t anywhere close to that level of business but Matt O’Riley is in the CAA Base stable, alongside three signings from the J-League he has brought fresh life to a Celtic squad that was running out of steam as December staggered on.

Discussing a brief meeting with Ange Postecoglou in his Daily Express column, the Daily Record reports Nicholas saying:

We had a brief five-minute conversation during which I thanked him for the job he is doing at my old club and what he is building.

Everyone knows I have had issues with the Parkhead hierarchy for several years because of my personal opinions.

They probably felt I wasn’t pro the Celtic board. I am not pro or a patronising member of the Celtic ownership club.

Ange is a strong individual and won’t bow down to any chief executive or owner. He is his own man and has a clear vision of what he wants to do.

When I asked him about the signing of Matt O’Riley, he simply pointed to his agent and said, ‘This is my agent and that is what I advised him to do’.

Ange goes with his instincts and his passion. It’s a bit old school. He is sorting out the issues and just getting on with the job.

After being dished up signings like Jonjo Kenny, Vasilis Barkas, Albian Ajeti, Diego Laxalt, Vakoun Bayo, Marian Shved, Patryk Klimala, Hatem Abd Elhamed and Ismaila Soro bringing in ambitious, driven first team ready players is a novelty that Celtic fans will never tire of.
