Hearts kick Souttar offers into touch as they reject Ibrox bids

As they lapped up the adulation of signing Aaron Ramsey on loan from Juventus Sevco were unable to secure the signing of John Souttar from Hearts.

The Scotland defender has already signed a pe-contract deal to move to Ibrox in the summer but his new club were unable to come up with the £500,000 fee that Hearts were looking for to bring the move forward.

With Leon Balongun and Filip Helander dogged by injury this season Giovanni van Bronckhorst will have to soldier on with Connor Goldson and Calvin Bassey in central defence.

The Sun reports:

JOHN SOUTTAR will remain at Hearts for the rest of the season after the club rejected Rangers’ deadline day advances.

The Scotland defender had already signed a pre-contract agreement with Gers but they were also keen to push through a deal to get him to Ibrox earlier than the summer.

The Jambos had already rejected an offer from Rangers earlier in the window, believed to be in the region of around £300,000.

It’s believed Hearts were looking for a fee closer to £500,000 and that yesterday’s approach failed to meet that figure.

The 25-year-old will now play out the rest of the term at Tynecastle before joining Rangers for nothing ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Hearts take on Hibs tonight at Easter Road, on Sunday they face Sevco at Ibrox. As well as failing to sign Souttar transfer guru Ross Wilson was unable to find a club prepared to take on the wage burden of Jack Simpson or John Lundstram.
