The boys of 2016 as Mark Warburton loses the Scottish Cup Final to Hibs
Graham Alexander has been reflecting on the honest mistake that cost his side two points at Ibrox in September.Â
The Motherwell boss takes his side back to that venue at the weekend with the events of their first trip still fresh in mind.Â
Don Robertson will be in charge on Sunday but earlier in the season it was Steven McLean that cost his side full points when he allowed Fashion Sakala to head the opening goal from an offside position inside the six yard box.Â
Kaiyne Woolery equalised in the 66th minute but the events are still fresh as Alexander told the Daily Record:Â
If we had VAR we would have won the game, that’s the reality. They scored a blatantly offside goal, which everybody saw, and we scored a perfectly legitimate goal ourselves to get the draw.Â
Listen, we were under a lot of pressure in that game as well, so we understood that there was a tough challenge in front of us for 90 minutes.Â
But one thing I always say to my players is that they never give up, they’re always going strong to the end. Â They haven’t got that in their make-up to give up, that’s what kept us in the game and got us that point.Â
It could have been different on a different day and a lot of games are – there are moments in games that go your way or they don’t, and they determine how the rest of the match goes.Â
Motherwell are currently grouped with Hibs and Dundee United on 34 points in 4th/5th/6th place needing to maintain a top six place with six Premiership fixtures to be played before the split.Â
1 minute 40 for honest mistake
