John Hartson’s ‘Good Luck’ message to Proper Ledge Alex Rae

John Hartson has sent a sarcastic Good Luck message to new Reading assistant manager Alex Rae.

After years haunting the media scene in Scotland the former St Mirren and Dundee boss is back inside the game as assistant to Paul Ince at the Championship club.

The media scene in Scotland is usually fairly chummy but it seems that there is bad blood between Hartson and Rae who have both featured regularly on BT Sport’s coverage of European football this season.

After 14 years in English football the lure of a ‘tax free’ payment of £569,000 from Dave Murray was enough to get Rae to sign for Rangers in 2004 on a two year contract.

Of those 34 appearances 12 were made as a substitute but that was enough to seal a route for Rae into the Scottish media when it was clear that he wasn’t cut out for management.

In contrast Hartson scored 109 goals during his five seasons at Celtic.
