No Penalty: Watch the Ryan Porteous incident missed by Nick Walsh at Ibrox

Sky Sports and BBC Scotland didn’t want to include the incident in their highlights package but there is little doubt that Hibs were denied justice at Ibrox last night.

Trailing by 1-0 early in the first half, Ryan Porteous moved forward when his side were awarded a corner kick on the right-hand side.

Calvin Bassey recognised the threat posed by the Hibs defender by putting his left arm around the Hibs defender. When Porteous tried to break free from the Ibrox defender he was rugby tackled to the ground.

Despite having awarded a fifth minute penalty for the home side Nick Walsh failed to do likewise for Hibs.

Walsh has taken charge of 12 Premiership matches this season, last night was his fifth involving the club from Ibrox. The three players that he has sent off this season were all playing against Sevco- Porteous, Stephen O’Donnell and Josh Ginnelly.

Speaking about the incident to STV, Hibs boss Shaun Maloney said:

The penalty (claim) was a big decision. That would have changed the dynamic too. But that’s done. At the time, I couldn’t quite see it. But, looking back, it’s quite clear it was a penalty. I know it’s difficult for referees with no VAR, mistakes can happen, but it was a clear penalty for me.
