Sky Sports break their silence on Kris Boyd’s comments about Callum McGregor

Sky Sports have finally responded to complaints from Celtic fans about the comments of Kris Boyd about testing Callum McGregor’s facemask. 

The remarks were made in a column in The Sun but as their leading Scottish pundit for the satellite broadcaster has become involved in the issue. 

Last Friday Celtic claimed in a tweet that the issue was being addressed but later in the day Boyd doubled down in an article in The Sun before appearing on Sky’s coverage of the SPFL on Sunday. 

Celtic fans have been looking for an apology or action taken against Boyd but it seems that none of his employers are willing to take on the matter. 

Asked about their stance on Boyd, The Herald reports Sky saying: 

We are aware of Kris Boyd’s comments made in his column in the Scottish Sun, which he has since clarified and about which he has reached out to Celtic captain Callum McGregor privately. 

Even though those comments were not made on Sky Sports, Kris has been reminded about the language and context he uses in articulating and telling a story. 

Sky won’t have any more live coverage of Scottish matches until Sunday February 20 but it seems that the pressure from Celtic has been noted as their comments to The Herald demonstrate. 

In midweek Callum McGregor revealed that Boyd had contacted him to explain his comments.
