Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s defensive problems have increased with Borna Barisic back in the side!

The Croatian ace was hooked at half time during last week’s derby defeat with Ibrox fans slaughtering his display with two incidents in particular being highlighted.

Putting the brakes on and performing a 180 degrees about turn when confronted by Callum McGregor was compounded by his crouching position as Liel Abada scored Celtic’s third goal.

Barisic was relegated to the bench against Hearts on Sunday but was called into action after 15 minutes of the win over Hibs when Leon Balogun hobbled off with reports suggesting a knee or hamstring injury.

The 33-year-old Nigerian is out of contract in May and has yet to be offered a new deal for next season.

Balogun’s injury saw Calvin Bassey reunited with Connor Goldson in central defence, in seven days time van Bronckhorst has to find a defence to play Borussia Dortmund with Filip Helander left out of the Europa League squad.

Unless he wishes to try something very different it looks like van Bronckhorst will have to put his faith in Tavernier, Goldson, Bassey and Barisic for two matches against Dortmund either side of an SPFL trip to Dundee United.

Aaron Ramsey managed 15 minutes last night as he builds up his fitness for the Wales v Austria World Cup play-off tie on March 24.
