Giorgos Giakoumakis seems to be enjoying his first experience of the Scottish Cup.

The striker opened his 2022 account with a goal at Alloa, added another in the 4-0 win over Raith Rovers then notched a double away to Dundee United as Celtic secured their place in the semi-final draw. Another goal or two at Hampden would be very welcome.

After a variety of injury struggles after joining Celtic from VVV Venlo the striker seems very much at home in the Celtic side.

His missed penalty against Livingston could have sunk a weaker personality but despite missing most of November and December Giakoumakis has bounced back to provide Celtic with a very authentic physical presence that knows how to score the ordinary, or ugly goals.

Neither strike at Tannadice will be contending for any Goal of the Month award but took his tally onto nine for the season.

With the season getting very serious it looks like Ange Postecoglou’s faith in the Greek striker is well placed with Ross County on Saturday the opportunity for Giakoumakis to hit double figures in his debut season in Scotland.
