Ange Postecoglou and social media- who is he following?

Does Ange Postecoglou use social media? If he does, who does he follow on Twitter and Instagram?

Those questions came to mind reading through the Etims Diary this morning with the internet veterans a little bit smarter and sharper than they like to portray their usually drunken sources.

Football has a very strained relationship with social media, the game could probably do without a lot of the intrusion that it brings but used smartly it is the ultimate communication tool.

For three years Postecoglou was in Japan. He might joke about the Scottish dialect and version of English but he’ll be able to follow it noe too badly, by the way. When in charge of Yokohama Marinos social media would have been a lifeline to the outside world, to his Australian and international contacts.

Now and then he might have checked up on the progress, or otherwise of his former international player Tommy Rogic.

In their own particular style, today’s Etims Diary teases with:

That old chestnut match fitness seems to be a thing of the past, players will be expected to be ready at a moments notice to drop into the side and put in a performance, which will horrify a couple of them and clear the way for a final purge during the summer transfer window.

From now on, a couple of posts on a players instagram account or a tweet about how much they love the club will no longer suffice.

One thing we heard a while ago was that Ange is extremely aware of social media, and keeps an eye on things personally, a sort of unseen fenian brand , and anyone who he feels is taking him , or the fans, for a ride will be outed. Outed through the door that is.

You may be surprised at some of the names mentioned for honourable discharges. Ange is ruthless, and you may have noticed that a number of players he’s brought in seem like ready made replacements for some of our established men.

Something else we’ve noticed is that the media, both social and mainstream, is very limited in little stories that escape the ranch.

On day one at Celtic Postecoglou held a media conference with fan-based websites and podcasters. He’d have done a little homework ahead of that, realised that Celtic fans are well served, connected and informed.

Much of his traditional media conferences feed off social media, fan reactions and developments. Again the Celtic boss will be doing some homework rather than relying on an old school Communication Manager dumping a pile of newspapers on his desk.

You can stay on top of social media, trending matters and breaking news without posting what you had for dinner or holiday selfies.

Behind the jovial demeanour that was on an Australian chat show earlier this week there is a very savvy and connected individual. Smarter than most he is in contact with in Scottish football and very well aware of what is happening outside of the Lennoxtown bubble.
