Celtic’s £8m UEFA payout

Celtic picked up a total of 9,498,522 euros from playing in Europe this season which translates to around £8m at current exchange rates.

The money is made up from qualifying for the Europa League and winning three matches although they failed to advance in the competition.

With fans back in the stadium for three group matches as well as qualifiers against Jablonec and Alkmaar the hoops will have made far more from those five games than they do in the 38 match SPFL Premiership.

This season the stakes for winning the League are far higher with a group place in the Champions Legue virtually assured.

Those six matches could bring in close to £40m but even dropping into the Europa League can bring in a tidy sum.

Ticket money and hospitality are above the payments directly from UEFA with clubs able to set up their own pricing.
