Daniel Amokachi has launched a devastating attack on Calvin Bassey following Nigeria’s World Cup exit to Ghana.

Back in 1994 the big striker was the star of Nigeria’s World Cup campaign in the USA but the 2022 version of the Super Eagles will be watching the action in Qatar from their holiday homes.

London-born Bassey made his full international debut in the 0-0 draw away to Ghana and lasted until the 88th minute of the return leg which saw Nigeria lose out on away goals following a 1-1 draw.

Bassey has been given the usual hype from the Ibrox cheerleaders but it is hard to get away from the impression that he is a strong, athletic guy trying to play soccer.

Picking up on an interview from Amokacki, The Sun reports the former Nigeria striker saying:

Calvin Bassey was exhausted after the first half and you could see that he always had his hand on his waist each time. I don’t know why he stayed on for that long.

The Super Eagles didn’t play at all. The players did not show how important it was for them to play at the World Cup. They were playing as if they didn’t know that there was an away goal rule.

The urgency was zero from our players. They didn’t deserve to qualify for the World Cup from the way they played. The Ghanaians showed they wanted it more than our boys. Their attitude was not the best at all and they were nonchalant in their play.

And this is what you get when you have 99 per cent of your players born overseas.

Leon Balogun and Joe Aribo also played in the World Cup ko, neither were born in Nigeria.
