Scott Brown could be offered a route into coaching with the Celtic u-18 side.

That is the claim made in The Sun by David Friel, a year ago he was the reporter that scooped the news that Neil Lennon had resigned as Celtic manager 10 hours ahead of the official announcement.

Brown announced his departure from Aberdeen yesterday but his next move, most likely to be into coaching remains something of a guessing game.

A reunion with Neil Lennon at Cypriot side Omonia Nicosia is an obvious connection to suggest but The Sun reports an opening in coaching far closer to home:

SunSport understands Celtic would be willing to create a pathway for him in that area — should he want it.

Boss Ange Postecoglou already has a first-team backroom staff of John Kennedy, Stephen McManus and Gavin Strachan.

But there could be an opening for Brown somewhere within the senior academy and B-team set-up — with a view to progressing up the levels. Celtic are currently advertising for an Under-18s coach to work alongside Stuart McLaren.

Whether such a minor role would appeal to Brown isn’t sure, with no pathway towards the first team coaching the u-18 side may not satisfy his ambitions.

The better players at u-18 level are playing in the Lowland League but that arrangement is only for one season, a decision has still to be made over whether Celtic can play again in that division.

Having a definite structure in place would assist players and coaches, until that issue is settled it would seem unlikely that an ambitious coach would devote their future to working at that level.
