Celtic Park won’t be included in the UK and Ireland bid to host Euro 2028.

After being advised that a bid to host the World Cup Finals would receive little support outside of Europe the home associations have virtually been guaranteed the 2028 European Championships.

Glasgow can offer three 50,000 plus capacity stadiums but it seems like the biggest football stadium and one recognised and admired across European football will be overlooked for Hampden and a rugby stadium in Edinburgh.

Discussing the bid from five home associations, The Scotsman reports:

It is understood 18 grounds are in the frame for what could be an expanded tournament. The European Championships is currently made up of 24 teams but it could be increased to 32 for the 2028 edition.

Two grounds have been pinpointed in Scotland to host matches. Hampden Park, which hosted four matches at Euro 2020, is guaranteed as the home of Scottish football.

Celtic Park and Ibrox are unlikely to be considered with Scottish Rugby’s BT Murrayfield a proposed venue. It holds 67,500 fans and is used to hosting big events.

Should Celtic Park be included in the Euro 2028 bid?

Murrayfield and Hampden are better

Government funding is likely to be needed for Hampden to be brought upto date, after hosting matches at last summer’s European Championships there wasn’t much praise for the stadium with fans watching from poor vantage points behind both goals.

The SFA have resisted various offers to take matches to Murrayfield but it seems that Edinburgh has to be included in any Scottish bid.

In November 2014 Celtic Park hosted internationals between Scotland and Ireland then England within the space of a week.

Well why would the SFA want to keep money in the sport they are there to serve when they could give the money to another sport altogether.
Having said that there will be security issues of having two games in Glasgow on the one day as most likely the games would ve in the same group.
Also the final group games have to kick off at the same time and that would be a non starter for Police Scotland.
However if one of the nations fans decide to march to George Square for a day of riot and racist singing, I’m sure they would be facilitated.

Celtic Park is simply not up to the standard required. That’s the simple truth. From the shambles of team buses having to drop players off well outside the stadium, to the disgrace that is the South Stand. When are they going to finish the stadium?

What a clown, Celtic park is recognised as one of the best in Europe whilst Ibrox was crumbling to bits, just like the team, our disco lights are worth more than your stadium haha

I’m a Celtic season ticket holder. I don’t care about Ibrox. I care about Celtic. The stadium is never near top grade

CP and even the collapsing wreck that is Ayebrokes are ten times the stadia Hampden is. Frankly I’m stunned the SFA brethren aren’t using this as an excuse to get money to the scum to renovate their midden.
They can shove hosting up their erses.

The tournament is a pile of crap. International football is boring and garbage. The champions League is more prestigious than the World Cup. The Euros. Ha 32 teams so everyone qualifies. Meaningless games for months, disruption to the League for pointless games, whengarbage like Scotland could simply playoff against each other for the last 4 spots. I mean do we need to see England and Slovakia again. What a waste of time Celtic first and last and only. No more Jimmy wigs or quasi-Nazi nationalism

    • Seppington says:

Would you be saying that if we had a national team worth a damn?
Personally I love watching world cups and Euros. Better than most of the usual tripe we are served up domestically from the SPFL or EFL…

Celtic Park is the best football staidium in Scotland by Country mile no staidium near its class that includes the dump hamden and the bigot dome .

  • Stev says:

Because they dont have an inside drop off zone

As has been commented here one of the fundamental issues is the lack of internal team bus parking, also I believe that there is a lesser number of spaces for the press than is required by UEFA. I know that here they spent a fortune building 10 new stadiums for Euro 2004.. Unfortunately most are hardly being used but all of them were built to those guidelines… The other mob can’t laugh as their dump also doesn’t meet these criteria.
