The Celtic penalty claim that BBC Sportscene didn’t want to analyse

On March 6 Sportscene viewers were treated to forensic analysis of a disputeD corner-kick and throw-in from Celtic’s 3-1 win away to Livingston.

It was highly selective, other incidents of equal or greater importance were ignored. Every match has disputed calls over corners and throw-ins. Football Scotland covered the Sportscene analysis.

Last night at Tannadice John Beaton made a number of puzzling decisions in front of the Premier Sports cameras with BBC Sportscene showing highlights later on in the evening.

As Willie Collum demonstrated at Motherwell the previous day the same Laws of the Game apply for the full 90 minutes, a brutal challenge in the second minute deserves a red card.

Even with Celtic leading 2-0 in the closing stages a handball in the penalty box should result in a penalty-kick.

As a Celtic cross came in from the right Ross Graham felt the ball drifting away from him towards an opponent. He extended his right arm to gain extra control with that touch taking the ball away from Matt O’Riley.

In the follow up Liam Smith appeared to use an arm to block a Tom Rogic cross but that was from a ball fired at him from close range. Graham on the other hand deliberately moved his arm towards the ball, took it away from O’Riley with Beaton waving play on despite having a clear view of the whole incident.
