Kenny Macintyre took to Twitter last night to deal with the reaction to his disastrous post match interview with Ange Postecoglou following Celtic’s 2-0 win over St Mirren.

The starting point for the issue is on January 31 when the BBC Scotland tweeted ‘Rangers are my team, never hidden that’.

With Celtic and his team within three points of each other with 10 matches left to play it is only natural that Macintyre would have been watching last night’s match with his heart in Perth where his own team was playing.

It wasn’t Celtic’s best performance of the season but over 14 home matches you get a variety of performances. Under Postecoglou Celtic have dropped home points to Dundee United and Livingston while losing fairly emphatically to Bayer Leverkusen and Bodo Glimt.

They started the Premiership campaign with 6-0 wins over Dundee and St Mirren but every fan knows that those levels won’t be maintained. An experienced journalist knows that the team that wins a league title turns in a wide range of performances over the season.

Macintyre failed to take that into perspective when he spoke after the match:

Kenny MacIntyre: Ange, I’d love to know your thoughts on that game. I’ve seen some fantastic matches this season, that certainly wasn’t one of them, it was a hard watch at times, is that fair?

Ange Postecoglou: Well it depends on what you are looking for, maybe you are disappointed at the way that it went mate, I’m not really sure.

Macintyre trying to but in: No it is not that, I just felt, I just felt

Postecoglou: We’ve won a game 2-0, they didn’t create anything, I think that we dominated the football, it is a bit hard when the opposition sit so deep. If anything I thought we were better. We were solid, we stayed composed, we did what we had to do to weigh down an opposition that was sitting deep and defending well.

The interview concluded with Macintyre asking the Celtic manager his thoughts on the Rangers result.

Back on Transfer Deadline Day Macintyre revealed his footballing interest, it is almost unheard of for a BBC Scotland sports reporter to admit to supporting one of the two main Glasgow teams.
