‘Typical clickbait Tom’ ‘No apology? You’re a coward Tom’ ‘You should be sacked for that bitter depraved tweet’ English under attack over crass Warne attack

With his lack in understanding of digital times and social media Tom English thought that his 11.34pm Saturday night tweet would go un-noticed. It didn’t.

To be fair however it wasn’t the biggest Twitter mistake that the chief sports writer at BBC Scotland made over the weekend.

As Own Goals go even English will be hard pushed to surpass his crass tweet about Celtic on Friday afternoon. Any hopes he harboured of getting sent on an Ashes tour down under went up in smoke.

Drawing inspiration from his buddy Ewan Murray of the Guardian he decided to expose all his anger and contempt for Celtic.

Murray has the advertisers with the Guardian to contend with- English has editorial standards as he discovered with the backlash on his latest Tweet critical of Celtic.

The egg-chaser from Limerick craves social media attention but quickly on Friday he’d have realised that this time he had gone way over a boundary. He isn’t smart enough to be subtle, instead he went all in with- unleashing a backlash that reached Australia where the Warne family have been offered a state funeral.

Friday night was probably sleepless for English, Saturday passed in slow motion before he reached again for that Twitter account. With no apology offered as he selected DELETE more attention has been drawn as he doubles down on a tweet that was brilliantly reflected his train of thought.
