Video: Watch the Battle of Belgrade

Fighting was reported at various locations across Belgrade last night as the locals prepared for an anxious time ahead of tonight’s Europa League tie.

The events of George Square last March and May might be conveniently sidelined by the Scottish authorities but the residents of the Serb capital were taking no chances.

Despite Glasgow being in Tier IV Lockdown restrictions around 10,000 Ibrox fans were given police escorts into George Square as they vandalised the surrounding areas with locals under virtual house arrest.

With 3,000 fans expected in Belgrade from Glasgow, fans of Partizan and Red Star got together to ensure that there was no repeat in their historic city.

It is believed that many of the fans flying in for today’s match are elderly or disabled with a large proportion of amputees and wheelchair users expected to cheer on James Tavernier and the side with their unique songbook.

In 2019 UEFA twice closed sections of Ibrox due to incidents of racism involving fans, no action has ever been taken by the SFA against the Ibrox club since formation in 2012 under Charles Green.

Celtic’s Board of Directors have agreed to play a fund-raising friendly in Sydney against the Ibrox rivals in November.
