All step-overs and no end product- Celtic duo kill off Keevins’ doom mongering within hours

Hugh Keevins’ latest forecast of doom for Celtic was up in smoke within 12 hours of being released. 

On Day One of the SPFL season the veteran broadcaster tipped Ange Postecoglou’s side to finish the season in third place with Aberdeen beating the hoops into second spot, currently the Dons are 49 points behind the league leaders. 

Yesterday’s offering from Keevins was full of highland warnings, references to costly past visits to Ross County and Inverness Caley Thistle with doubts over Celtic’s ability to see the job through. Another Helicopter Sunday was eagerly awaited.

Two players in particular came in for criticism, apparently Liel Abada and Jota are experts at showy step-overs with no end product- just wait till Keevins turns his attention towards Ryan Kent. 

On Sunday morning Keevins informed Daily Record readers: 

Jota and Abada have dipped in form up front as well and there’s now a question mark against the Portuguese in particular.

Is the appetite to pay Benfica £6.5m to get Jota signed on a permanent deal still as strong as it was earlier in the season?

At the moment he’s all step-overs and no end product.

Abada is all step-overs and poor decision making when it comes to his final delivery. 

Time to step up, not step over, for the pair of them. 

They certainly stepped up yesterday.

For the record, Jota scored his eighth SPFL goal yesterday on his 26th appearance, including three off the bench. 

Abada was heavily involved in the build up, with 10 goals from 33 appearances, 10 as a substitute the 20-year-old can be well pleased with his first season in Scottish football. 

With a six point lead and four matches left to play there looks like there is little prospect of a Helicopter Sunday unless Neil Doncaster is going to get airborne in six days time.
