Celtic fans were able to take some consolation from tonight’s Europa League action at Ibrox tonight.
While Ange Postecoglou’s squad were resting up at home ahead of another intensive training session Sunday’s Scottish Cup opponents were enduring a draining 120 minutes of action in the Europa League.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side eventually went through on a 3-2 aggregate but it was very heavy going two and a half days before they meet Celtic at Hampden.
The tie should have been settled before half-time with Braga picking up where they left off in 2020 when they turned a 2-0 lead into a 3-2 defeat at Ibrox.
Two goals from James Tavpen with their opponents down to 10 men should have put the home side in easy street but Veiga Teixeria Carno scored in the 83rd minute to stun Ibrox and send the match into extra-time.
Kemar Roofe settled the tie with a goal in the 101st minute, with Braga soon reduced to nine men the outcome was never in doubt but van Bronckhorst will be doing a head count tomorrow to see if there are any additions to Alfredo Morelos and Filip Helander on the injured list.
