It seems that the CCTV system at Ibrox has been unable to pick out the fan that allegedly threw a bottle into Joe Hart’s goalmouth during Sunday’s Glasgow derby.

Play was held up for five minutes at the start of the second half as the Celtic goalkeeper alerted the match referee about what had happened.

Incedibly the incident seems to have been missed by the stewards and Police Officers at Ibrox.

Exactly how the glass got onto the pitch seems to be something of a mystery. A bottle is unlikely to have smashed/shattered on impact with the grass pitch which leaves a variety of options open.

Surely if a bottle was thrown from the Copeland Road Stand onto the pitch someone would have noticed and alerted ground staff to clear up before Hart made his discovery.

The Police Scotland website reports:

Inspector Brian Fraser, of Greater Glasgow’s Divisional Violence Reduction Unit, said: “Luckily no-one was hurt as a result of this incident, however, it could have caused serious injury.

“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the bottle being thrown or who has any information about the incident to please get in touch.

“Anyone with any information which could assist our investigation should call police via 101, quoting incident 0892 of 3 April.”

So far there has been no statement from either club about that incident or a Celtic physiotherapist requiring stitches after being struck by a glass bottle at half-time in the match.

Should Celtic request a full public review of security at Ibrox from Sunday?

Why would you think that it would have revealed anything ?
The Rangers use volunteers for security, who are essentially supporters, to cut down costs.
I would be surprised if their cctv is even on with the exception of the cameras covering the away fans.
The only two peeple I know who have been banned are the pitch invader who was actually caught and the guy, caught by sky sports cameras making gestures at Scott Sinclair.
Objects are routinely thrown there and miraculously no one is ever found responsible.

If only Lee Wallace was in the crowd eh.

  • Scud Missile says:

Cover up but the silence from the klan klubs board is a disgrace so scared of their own fans and consequences should they have to call them out.

  • John mcghee says:

I think we all knew that this would be an exercise with no result.
How can police, security and cameras not pick out the culprits.
    Totally mystifying.

  • Bhoy4life says:

Musta been Beaton, Madden and Walsh they had looking at it cos they never see anything at Ibroke’s.

  • Ed says:

Well, what a surprise. I said it to my friends before.
This is from the R*ngers supporters. The last 5 times Police Scotland look into their behaviour, they couldn’t find any culprit. I’m not even surprised anymore. They seem to get away with everything.
Police Scotland is useless when it comes to finding culprits in their favorite fanclub.

Cameras all off, save on costs so makes sense.
Celtic and Malmo did a proper jobby on sevco so they have no funny lunny left—funny lunny trees have died/dried up so….

I heard that one stewards done it..

  • Craig Gallagher says:

There was a fella on Twitter on Monday posting the exact Row & Seat number of the arsehole who did it & how the smashed bottle actually got on the pitch as he was next to the clown but was too feared to pipe up at the time..
He said that it was a brown stumpy bottle smashed in the stand & the big bits of broken glass were thrown onto the goalmouth area before Joe Hart came out.
It really shouldn’t be difficult to find that eejit. The amount of Police & Stewards who would’ve saw the idiot that flung the object at the end towards the celebrating Celtic players must be about 30 as it was right over beside our fans at the segregation & that was hoaching with Stewards & Police, they just looked the other way.

Shock-a-roonie no one seen anything officer.

  • andrew mcdowall says:

Looks like a cover up to me same as the brick that was throwing at the players ???

  • Gerry McCann says:

The thing they call CCTV doesn’t exist because they can’t afford the cost. The cameras they use have no film in them.
