Kris Boyd has slammed ‘Celtic minded pundits’ who have criticised Bobby Madden’s performance in Sunday’s Scottish Cup semi-final.
Chris Sutton was on duty at Hampden for Premier Sports and was highly critical of the referee with John Lundstram managing to avoid any colour of card despite three or four very questionable fouls awarded against him.
Since Sunday there seems to have been equal criticism of Celtic failing to perform alongside Madden’s handling of the match.
Boyd however, writing in The Sun, chose to focus on the Hampden referee and his critics:
Please, do me a favour and spare me this nonsense that it’s the referee’s fault Celtic lost to Rangers at Hampden.
Madden didn’t get everything absolutely right, I’m not for one minute saying he did but show me anyone who was perfect in Sunday’s Scottish Cup semi-final.
Some Celtic-minded individuals don’t see it that way, of course. Whether it’s their supporters or pundits once connected to the club, they want to blame the ref rather than look at what their team could have done better.
Ange Postecoglou will have spent much of Monday reviewing the Hampden defeat alongside assessing the analysis from the match.
The Celtic boss will quickly turn his attention to Sunday’s match away to Ross County as they kick-off their post-split fixtures.
Following the trip to Dingwall Celtic host the final Glasgow Derby with Boyd likely to be on Sky Sports duty at Celtic Park for that fixture.
My @Record_Sport column on why Celtic should use yesterday’s poor performance as a motivation for what lies ahead. Too many players didn’t turn up and it didn’t click in the final third but it’s gone now. The motivation now move on and cement the really big prize…your thoughts?? https://t.co/haQEFUQ0BG

Celtic were poor but Bobby Madden turned in one of the worst refereeing performances I’ve seen in Scotland for a long time… and that’s saying something!!!

Boyd is either extremely stupid or just completely lacks self awareness.
He is a “ Sevco minded individual” and spends all his time doing exactly what he is accusing others of.
What a complete plank.
The Madden didn’t have a shocker, he played his cards absolutely the way he wanted too because he’s allowed to by a hun run Scotland.
He should never be allowed near one of our games again but guess what he will because we as a club, manager, players and fans let him with our pacifist impotent approach. I haven’t seen one honest review of his performance from our club representatives. Pathetic
