Leigh Griffiths has revealed that his relationship with Neil Lennon seems dead and buried.

The Irishman signed the striker for Celtic in January 2014 before quitting a few months later, when he returned as manager five years later Griffiths was one of just a handful of players still around from his first stint.

During the first half of the 2019/20 season it looked like time was finally up on Griffiths’ troubled Celtic career but following the winter break he struck up a devastating partnership with Odsonne Edouard as Celtic powered to 9-in-a-row.

What happened next to both men during Lockdown 1 is anyone’s guess, safe to say that things were never quite the same again with the old relationship fractured and broken.

Last summer Radio Scotland broadcast some very public criticism of each man. With Griffiths at Falkirk and Lennon in Cyprus there is clearly some lingering bad blodd between the two men.

In an interview with Griffiths the Daily Record reports:

But Griffiths revealed Lennon has still to return a good luck message he sent after his old gaffer took up a post as head coach with Cypriot side Omonia Nicosia. And he believes any hope of mending the feud is gone.

Griff said: “From his point of view I think that’s the case. I sent him a text when he got his new job. I said I was delighted to see him back in football and hoped it was going to be successful for him.

“I’m still waiting on a text back. That’s on Lenny’s part, I have no bad words to say about any manager I played under and that stands for Lenny. It’s not my thing, football is a short career and you never know what’s around the corner.

“I’ve always been told not to hold grudges, don’t hold on to bad blood. All of the managers I played under can tell different stories about me but at one time or another they relied on me.”

Thankfully for Celtic fans there are new heroes in Ange Postecoglou, Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda, Giorgos Giakoumakis and others.
