Neil Lennon has reopened the debate over who signs players by revealing that he wished he had signed Joe Hart last summer.

The former England keeper has made 49 appearances since being signed from Spurs which contrasts to last seasons situation where Vasilis Barkas, Scott Bain and Conor Hazard seemed to have the position on rotation.

Hart recently admitted to contact with Celtic in the summer of 2020 but a move fell because there would be no sell-on value in the Spurs back-up.

That sounds like a decision made outside the football department- Celtic opted for Vasilis Barkas in a £4m deal- but Dermot Desmond recently told Celtic TV that signings are always decided by the manager.

Picking up on one of his failings from last year during his PLZ Soccer interview and discussing the current squad, the Sun reports Lennon saying:

He’s rebuilt the squad, which needed doing, everybody knew that but I think some of the players he’s brought in have been fantastic.

I really like Kyogo Furuhashi and I wish I’d had Joe Hart last season! Ange is on the cusp now of winning the title which would be a remarkable achievement.

It seems that Lennon didn’t expand on why Hart wasn’t signed in the summer of 2020, according to Desmond that decision lies with the manager that opted to spend £4m on Barkas.

The guy done so many great things at Celtic and we should always remember that there was a lot went on behind closed doors we will never know.

These people interviewing Lennon are not his friends. These were the same people who were saying “he brings it on himself”. Time for Neil to wisen up. HH

The ginger whinger at it again, the man cannot or will not accept the blame for his failures, he cost 10, no one else. He took over from Rodgers were the players played quick attacking football, he had slowed that right down to walking pace. Neil as a player was great but as a manager, no thanks.
It has been shown this season with Ange that if you have a plan and an idea of speed you will be successful in Scotland. I still maintain that if Celtic had replaced him after Ferencvaros last season, the Scouse messiah would have been out of work.
I wish him well in Cyprus
