Penny drops? Ibrox fans call for £30m cash injection

Some Ibrox fans appear to be waking up to the scale of the task facing their club over the next two transfer windows.

The fact that last season’s behind-closed-doors title success cost the club £23.5m may have been overlooked but spending on transfers fees has halted over the last three windows with Steven Gerrard deciding he was better off elsewhere.

Selling Nathan Patterson and a compensation package for Gerrard may cut the losses in half but the club has had to repay Dave King a £5m loan plus interest.

With player investment now at a halt so to is the squad cycle that Gerrard began in 2018. Connor Goldson, Allan McGregor, Leon Balogun, Scott Arfield and Steven Davis are out of contract next month with Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent, Joe Aribo and Filp Helander on deals until May 2023.

Celtic’s rebuild last summer was largely funded by selling Kris Ajer and Odsonne Edouard- serial winners from the club that developed Virgil Van Dijk, Fraser Forster, Kieran Tierney and Stuart Armstrong for the EPL. Patterson flopping at Everton doesn’t augur well for hopes of bringing in Dembele Dollars this summer for any of the One Hit Wonders.

Developing into a sustainable club doesn’t appear to be an option at Ibrox- as ever the fans are on the look out for a blue-nosed Sugar Daddy to match their demands now that HMRC are keeping a very close eye on what is going on up the Marble Staircase.
