A former Arsenal starlet has urged his old club to swoop for James Tavernier with the story lovingly picked up by the Daily Record.

It seems that after the failed campaigns to sell Glen Kamara, Ianis Hagi and Joe Aribo attention has again turned to hyping up Tavpen.

Now into his seventh season at Ibrox there hasn’t been a sniff of interest in the former Wigan utility man, two years ago Tavpen confirmed to his club’s match programme that he couldn’t handle expectations to win matches.

Desperately trawling the internet for good-news stories, the Daily Record reports:

Former Arsenal youngster Sanchez Watt, who also enjoyed stints at Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday, took to social media claiming Tavernier would “suit Arsenal’s style of play”.

He Tweeted: “I’ve played with and against Tav #baller… he would suit Arsenal’s style of play.

“Top professional on and off the pitch, never misses games.

“A captain who gets assists and can score goals. Set-piece specialist.

“Quick, gets up and down constantly… defends well. Why not?”

Perhaps a defender that doesn’t defend doesn’t appeal to leading EPL clubs that get a third of the penalties that get awarded to the Tribute Act?

The 30-year-old is under contract until May 2024, one year short of earning a testimonial.

Watt has been without a club since being freed by Wealdstone two years ago, previously he had been at Hemel, Billericay and Crawley. At the age of 31 it seems that his playing days are over but a pundit gig with Radio Scotland can’t be ruled out.
