Paul Lambert enjoyed a day inside the Celtic camp in the build up to the Glasgow derby.

The former Aston Villa and Norwich boss spent seven years playing for Celtic, thriving on the cut-throat nature of knowing that second-best was never an option.

Last season Celtic were a very distant second but one man from Australia set about changing that based on complete confidence in his ways and transferring it through to a brand new group of players.

After a rocky start to the season there were doubts about the Postecoglou ways but repeatedly he told reporters that he wouldn’t be tweaking or adapting his systems regardless of how results went.

Confidence can border with arrogance but there has been a humble approach from the manager installed into his players who have delivered spectacularly since the turn of the year.

The system works, it isn’t up for debate or negotiation as Lambert told the Daily Record about a visit to Lennoxtown last week.

I was just having a watch for a day or so and, coming from that, I had a feeling Celtic would win as there was a great atmosphere.

I’d met Ange before. I was doing a game for Celtic TV at one stage and we had a brief meeting. He invited me up to go and see him.

I felt he had a good persona about him and the way he comes across, even with media, he seems pretty calm. You can just tell. Even when you watched the training, the tempo was good.

Many of the guys weren’t there as they were away with their national teams at the time, but it was still strong and, as I said, the atmosphere was terrific.

I think Celtic have the best team this year and now it’s just down to finishing off the great work that has already been done.

With six matches left in the SPFL campaign momentum is building towards what would be a very special success for the manager who never doubted his methods.
