Ange Postecoglou has touched on the analytics that are going on behind the scenes at Lennoxtown.

From being on the fringes of the game a decade ago assessing statistics is now central to understanding how a performance has flowed and developed.

Random events can still influence any result and turn a match around but if the statistics/analytics remain sound then there is a far greater chance of achieving the desired outcome.

Speaking to The Scotsman, Postecoglou explained:

We analyse all the data which supports the kind of football team we want to be but the most important statistic for us is our fans going down London Road happy.

That’s our measure and it means that not only have we won but we’ve played the kind of football they want to see. We do have some metrics that we want to hit. Some are physical, some are our game style, and we have been doing that for quite a while.

We sit down and analyse games. It’s easy to say: ‘great performance, well done boys’ but there’s a reason for that. We give them the feedback but a lot of it is the sheer willingness to buy into something and to believe there is something beyond just the three points.

Saturday’s 7-0 win over St Johnstone was reckoned by many fans to have been the most impressive performances of the season.

Six different scorers, three of them coming off the bench ticks most boxes for a team in form with Celtic appearing to be improving as the most critical stage of the season gets underway.

Celtic’s last midweek match was on March 2, the next time that Postecoglou has to deal with another midweek fixture is on May 11 in the second last SPFL match of the season.
