Ange makes transfer market promise

Ange Postecoglou is looking forward to an increased transfer budget but it won’t alter his strategy when it comes to signing new players.

Last summer the new Celtic boss couldn’t be too selective as he brought in a dozen new players to a badly depleted squad and brought Tony Ralston and Tom Rogic back from the wilderness.

In January some forward planning brought in three new signings from the J-League ready to make an impact at the earliest opportunity.

When a move for Riley McGree fell through attention switched quickly to Matt O’Riley who slotted straight into the squad as Celtic won at Tynecastle and in a Glasgow Derby to hit top spot in the SPFL Premiership.

Four more points from their last three matches gives Celtic Champions League football next season with Postecoglou’s thoughts already on armouring his squad up for that challenge.

SS: Would playing in the Champions League allow you to be more adventurous in the transfer market?

AP: I think so, I’d assume that it makes us a more attractive proposition but it won’t change the strategy in terms of the kind of players.

I think that we’ve done really well in the transfer market this year, following a certain formula in the type of player that we bring in. That’s not going to change, we’re not going to move to a different sort of price range and bracket just because we have some extra income, it is still about bringing in the right players

A win against Hearts tomorrow would mean that Celtic’s points tally couldn’t be bettered with the back up of at least a 20 goals advantage in goal difference.

More money needs spent on the clubs infrastructure. Priority has to be a top class conditioning coach, the players can’t last 90 minutes.

This should be easily achieved if they can get rid of Lawwells dross.
