Anthony Joseph has revealed that Nir Bitton and Tom Rogic pushed for their Celtic departures.
In the case of Rogic it seems strange that he wanted to look elsewhere rather than complete a decade at Celtic under his former international manager.
Celtic had previously announced that both players had signed contracts until summer 2023 but it seems that both the player and the club had options on the final 12 months of those deals.
Celtic were keen to offer Rogic & Bitton new deals beyond their expiry dates of summer 2023 – but both players wanted to seek a new challenge this summer. Having been incredible and long-term servants for the club, those wishes were very much respected.

During the January transfer window Ange Postecoglou moved to strengthen his midfield options with Reo Hatate and Matt O’Riley both signing up and making an instant impact. Yosuke Ideguchi has barely featured but with Bitton and Rogic moving on he will have a clearer path to the first team.
James McCarthy has been a regular and largely unused substitute while the door to first team football appears to have completely closed on January 2020 signing Ismaila Soro.
