Barry Ferguson goes off message as he lays into ‘match-winner’ Ryan Kent

Barry Ferguson has gone badly off message by criticising Ryan Kent live on radio. 

In the 118th minute of last week’s Europa League Final the former Liverpool starlet had the chance to become a genuine legned when a deflected cut-back from Kemar Roofe fell perfectly into his path. 

Showing the decision-making that has been a trademark of his career Kenty chocked on the chance, shooting weakly against Kevin Trapp allowing Eintracht to take the match into penalties. 

As Giovanni van Bronckhorst put Aaron Ramsey’s name down for the fourth penalty Keny was tying his laces out of sight. 

Picking up on Ferguson’s appearance on Go-Radio, the Daily Record reports the former Alloa Athletic boss saying: 

The one thing I’ve always levelled against Ryan Kent is his consistency. I need to see more from him, three goals this season isn’t good enough. 

Certainly with the ability he’s got. he’s a match winner, there’s no doubt about that, but I just want more. I’m greedy, I want more from him and I’m sure Gio will want more. 

If you ask Ryan himself he would want more from himself. That’s the only thing, it’s up and down a bit with him, it’s in the locker that he can be a matchwinner most weeks but I’m just not seeing enough of that. 

Kent seems to be very consistent with great step-over stats and little in the way of goals and assists. With two goals in the SPFL and one in Europe this season Kent’s domestic tally is matched by Odsonne Edouard and Albian Ajeti with Tony Ralston and Cameron Carter-Vickers ahead of him in the scoring charts. 

Like Alfredo Morelos, Joe Aribo and Ryan Jack, Kent will be out of contract in May 2023.
