Charlie Nicholas believes that a new improved contract for Ange Postecoglou has to be Celtic’s priority.

A year ago the former Yokohama Marinos boss arrived on the 12 month rolling contract that is standard for Celtic bosses.

What isn’t standard is the achievements that Postecoglou has carried out. Delivering a title winning side, keys to the Champions League and a squad of players that again carries real value has been achieved largely on the back of selling Kris Ajer and Odsonne Edouard.

Celtic are a topic of conversation in Japan and Australia with fans likely to have renewed virtually all Season Tickets when the deadline arrives at 5pm on Thursday.

Season Two promises much, much more to delight supporters with Nicholas telling the Daily Express that the driving force has to be recognised and rewarded:

Forget about all the transfers because Celtic’s No. 1 priority in the coming weeks should be rewarding Ange Postecoglou with a new contract.

I would be absolutely amazed if talks haven’t already started. Celtic would be absolutely crazy if they haven’t opened negotiations or even scheduled them for the coming weeks.

Ange deserves to be rewarded for what he has done. Let’s get him tied up because he is at the heart of everything good that Celtic are doing and have done.

They kept topping up Brendan Rodgers’ deal and look at the compensation they got for him when Leicester City came in.

I don’t think Ange will be pushing for a new deal but it would be a reward for the remarkable job he has done at Celtic…….so far.

Celtic are going to make a lot of money from the Champions League but he has also saved them a fortune in rebuilding Celtic into a team of genuine value.

You also have to remember he has done it with the existing coaching staff like John Kennedy, Stephen McManus and Gavin Strachan. He has just got on with it and as long as people do their jobs well then Ange has shown he will be loyal to them.

A point tomorrow night away to Dundee United will ensure that Celtic are the champions with a game to spare, Postecoglou’s squad to Tannadice on the back of a 30 match unbeaten run.
