Dundee United issue Celtic statement

Dundee United have cancelled tickets for Wednesday’s match that they believe have been bought by Celtic supporters. 

The away allocation of around 3,500 tickets has been eagerly snapped up by Celtic Season Ticket holders who have been to matches throughout the season. 

When Celtic visited Tannadice in December there were large areas of empty seats in the home sections with similar scenes likely on Wednesday as Celtic chase the point required to clinch this season’s Premiership title. 

Celtic were back at Tannadice in March in the Scottish Cup with a reduced allocation as United sold tickets to their own fans for The Shed. Again, there was a large number of empty seats among the home sections with that situation likely again on Wednesday.

Earlier today United stated: 

Dundee United have cancelled a number of tickets for Wednesday’s match with Celtic following a thorough investigation of all purchases for the Dundee United sections of Tannadice. 

A refund has been offered on all cancelled tickets and barcodes on these tickets have been voided. These tickets will not work on the turnstiles. Supporters attempting to use voided tickets will be denied entry. 

Celtic’s allocation for this match is completely sold out and online sales for all areas of the stadium have been suspended. 

For this match we will be conducting an outer security perimeter and supporters will not be permitted to enter the turnstile zone without producing a valid match ticket. 

Anyone found to be in the wrong section of the ground will be ejected with arrangements in place to ensure the safety of all supporters. 

These decisions have been taken in consultation with our ticketing staff, matchday operations team, Celtic and Police Scotland. 

Wednesday’s match will be shown live by Sky Sports, if Celtic get the point required to clinch the title they will be presented with the trophy after Saturday’s match against Motherwell.
