Stewart Robertson is under fire after the Ibrox Managing Director ruled out opening up the stadium for a beam-back of the Europa League Final from Seville next week.
Eintracht will be showing the match to 50,000 fans at the Deutsche Bank Park but the shutters will be up at Ibrox with the club well aware of the reputation of their fans with George Square last year providing two further reminders.
Just 9,500 tickets for the match has been given to each competing clubs meaning that more than 40,000 Season Ticket holders will miss out. Thousands will travel ticketless to Spain next week but some of the Elderly & Disabled Loyal will find the trip to the sunshine too much to cope with.
Yesterday the club held a media day to preview the Europa League Final with Robertson revealing that he is in talks with UEFA and the authorities in Seville about hosting fanzones with the match less than a week away.
With the Ibrox club not prepared to cater for their own fans with an obvious money-spinner it is unlikely that Seville will be going out of its way to attract ticketless fans to their city, especially if they google ‘Manchester, Rangers, 2008’.
With Brexit travel restrictions, 60,000 Eintracht fans and temperatures in the high 30s it seems that Robertson is being evasive about the real threat to Seville, as he has acknowledged by keeping Ibrox closed next week.
Supporter Update: We are in dialogue with Spanish Police, local authorities and UEFA regarding a safe environment for supporters travelling, with and without tickets.

Other clubs care about their fans and don’t treat them as cash cows. It’s that simple.

Maybe if they Could release a beamback top in time they would do it?

This is an occasion which may never come around again, I would at the very least expect to hear that the club was trying to organise through an events group if we cannot staff this ourselves.

Are we finally seeing a price paid for continuing atrocious behaviour…surely not?
Doesn’t matter tho, Robertson will either cave in under immense pressure or they will just cause chaos on the streets of Glasgow anyway.
Get the plywood up folks.
Quite surprised the SNP have not gave into them as well GCC to open up George Square and just let them run riot watching it on a big screen there. After all they have done it before and they have form to prove it.
Surprised they haven’t taken the oportunity to sock the gullibles. Not like them at all.
