Ibrox transfer exodus is stalled

The expected turnover of players at Ibrox looks in danger of stalling. 

Four seasons with virtually the same core group of 16 players was expected to be followed by a big turnover with players thanked and moving on to be replaced by exciting new talents known to Giovanni van Bronckhorst. 

The first sign of stalemate was a 12 month deal for Scott Arfield. At the age of 33 he started 18 SPFL matches last season, his fourth at Ibrox. 

Allan McGregor has still to decide over whether he will be back again next season, now the Daily Record is reporting that Steve Davis is about to join Arfield with a new one year contract. The 37-year-old started 13 SPFL matches last season: 

Steven Davis is close to agreeing a new deal at Rangers. The Northern Ireland international, who is away on international duty, is expected to sign an Ibrox extension imminently. 

The 37-year-old is keen to play on and there have been very positive discussions that will keep him in light blue. It is expected that Davis will pen a one year extension. 

Davis, who is in his second spell with the club, missed spells of last season through injury but got over them and played his part in the Scottish Cup win and in the run to the Europa League final. Motherwell and St Mirren we’re both keen on the experienced midfielder but they look set to be disappointed. 

In contrast, despite both still having contract options till 2023, Celtic came to agreements with Tom Rogic (29) and Nir Bitton (30) to leave the club after signing three midfielders during the January transfer window. 

Connor Goldson is expected to announce his Ibrox exit next week with the injury-prone John Souttar coming in as his replacement.

Next May Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent, Joe Aribo, Ryan Jack and Filip Helander are out of contract.
