An overnight surge in voting has taken the Lisbon Lions ahead of Barcelona 2011 in a BBC poll for the Greatest Team Of All Time.

Launched on Monday morning on the back of Real Madrid’s 14th European Cup triumph the BBC listed 10 great club teams down the years plus an option to vote for Other.

Early on Monday evening Barcelona were in front with a 29%-22% split in the voting but overnight that had been turned around to 31%-26% in favour of the Lions.

Fifty-five years after Billy McNeill became the first man to lift the trophy the triumph of Jock Stein’s side burns brighter than ever.

Recent attempts by Manchester City and Liverpool for a clean sweep of honours have fallen by the wayside with Jurgen Klopp’s side missing out at the final hurdle for two trophies.

Polling continues until 5pm Celtic Park Time, having got in front Celtic fans will be keen to ensure another triumph for the group of men forever known as the Lisbon Lions.
